Review Committees

Welcome to Sunderland Council's Scrutiny site, known as Review.  Overview and Scrutiny is a key part of the democratic arrangements in Sunderland.

The Council has six Review Committees. These are:

Review Committees:

  • Assist the Cabinet and Council in the development of the Council's budget and policy framework.

  • Provide in-depth analysis of policy issues including conducting research, community and other consultation.

  • Review, monitor and evaluate the performance of the Council

  • Make recommendations about service delivery to the Cabinet and full Council

  • Review and scrutinise the performance of partner organisations

  • Gather evidence on issues of local concern

  • Assist in securing value for money and quality provision

More detailed information regarding scrutiny arrangements is contained here in the Overview & Scrutiny Handbook (image: pdf icon 208kb).

The Health and Well-Being Review Committee has the responsibility for acting as community advocate in relation to the scrutiny of local health services.

Flexibility is also available for the addition of items to committee agendas through requests from Members of the committee or members of Council, the call-in of decisions and other matters arising from previously considered topics.
