The main administrative centre for the City Council and the venue for
most
Council meetings is the Civic Centre, Sunderland.
The Council has 75 Council Members (Councillors), elected by
the people of Sunderland to represent their interests and to organise the
provision of services to meet their needs.
Meetings of the full Council are held every two months on a Wednesday at 6.00 pm in the
Council Chamber in the Civic Centre.
At these meetings, the Council makes major decisions, such as
appointing the Mayor or setting the annual budget or the Council Tax.
It also considers the decisions and recommendations of the Cabinet
and the Standards Committee.
Members of the press and public may attend Council meetings,
but they are not allowed to speak or interrupt the proceedings.
Here are details of how you can have your say on Council
matters.
Copies of Agendas
and Minutes for meetings are available to members of the public.
The terms of reference of the Council and its Committees are set out
in the Articles of the Council's Constitution.
The Membership of the Council and its Committees are set out in the
Council's Year Book.
