Job Linkage is a nationally accredited service that seeks to link local people to local jobs by customising information, guidance, training and other support to the needs of residents of targeted areas of the City.

Job Linkage also seeks to respond to the human resource needs of local businesses and inward investors by offering recruitment and training grants to offset the initial costs of employing local residents and developing customised training and employment support for local people. Job Linkage is also piloting initiatives to support working in small firms and self-employment as a route into work.

Job Linkage is delivered through centres in Houghton and Hendon and through innovative partnership arrangements with voluntary sector agencies: 

• GATES in Grindon
• New View in Pallion
• Thorney Close Action and Enterprise Centre in Thorney Close
• Sunderland North Community Business Centre (SNCBC) in Town End Farm.

Services to local residents include the provision of information and advice on local training and employment opportunities, short pre-vocational and vocational training opportunities and a number of subsidies aimed at potential employees to help them get into work.
