• The only 50 metre pool between Leeds and Edinburgh
• 50m main pool with 10 lanes
• 25m multi-purpose pool which includes two 1m and 3m spring boards, as well
as 1m, 3m and 5m diving platforms (5m platform is wide enough for synchro-diving).
• A ‘surface agitation facility’ will create bubbles from below to help
divers recognise the water, and time their entry into the pool.

Olympic Games
• Designed to provide world-class facilities for local people, the Sunderland
Aquatic Centre will also be capable of staging high profile national and
regional competitions.
• Both the main pool and multi-purpose pool have moveable floor. This allows
depths to be varied so that they can accommodate a range of activities from aqua
aerobics to water polo, enabling swimmers at all levels to use them
• The main pool also has a moveable boom that can be used to alter its length
or sub-divide it, allowing more than one group of swimmers to use it at the same
time.
• Competitors will enjoy state-of-the-art facilities, including rooms for
coaches and physiotherapists, drug testing, a plunge pool to assist muscle
recovery and a performance training area.
