Search of Burial Records

The Cemeteries Office holds burial records for all of the 10 cemeteries and the Crematorium, however these are generally in the form of large books, many of which are in a fragile condition. To assist anyone who may wish to research their family history all of the burial records have been placed on film and are available at the Local Studies Centre at the Central Library, Fawcett Street, Sunderland

Information is also held at the Tyne and Wear Archive, Blandford House, Blandford Place, Newcastle upon Tyne

The Cemeteries Office Staff will carry out manual searches on request, however priority must be given to the routine operation of the service, hence we may not be able to give an immediate answer to an enquiry.

There is a fee payable for this service.

Locating a Grave

Ward Plans for each cemetery and advice on how to locate a grave is available on-line or from the Cemeteries Office.
