Independent voluntary organisation working with and for older people in Sunderland. Services include: advice and information, charity shop, luncheon clubs, leisure and learning classes/activities, 'Friendly Faces' home visiting, companionship, telephone companionship/advice, benefits and energy advice, computer drop-in-centre, peer learning, eating well, home visiting advice, Clients Council for Older People, financial services, home contents and travel insurance etc.

A textphone service is available for people with access to a textphone and is also free of charge on Tel: 0800 26 96 26.
SeniorLine is a free telephone advice service run by Help the Aged for older people, their relatives, carers and friends.
Trained advice workers offer free, confidential and impartial advice and information about:

  • Welfare and disability benefits
  • Care at home
  • Residential care
  • Housing options and adaptations
  • Access to health and community services

The Information Centre offers information, advice and has publications available on various aspects of stroke illness for patients, carers, relatives and friends. The office is open Monday, Thursday and Friday from 10am - 1pm.
A Dysphasia Support Service for people with speech and communication difficulties is provided within the Sunderland area. The Co-ordinator can be contacted at the Regional Office based at Team Valley.

The Centre also offers carers support groups, support at meetings with social workers etc, courses, social activities and a free newsletter every two months.  The Centre produces a free Newsletter very second month to keep people up-to-date with services for carers.  You can join the mailing list by contacting the Centre.

Provide a visiting/escort/sitting service for people with physical disabilities, frail elderly, sensory disabilities and mental health problems. They also offer an advisory service on welfare rights and benefits.
