South of Tyne and Wearside Mental Health NHS Trust provides specialist Mental Health Services to older people through a comprehensive range of services. These services include in-patient assessment and continuing care facilities, community psychiatric nursing services and day hospital facilities which provide assessment, treatment and support for a range of mental health needs.

The Sunderland branch of the Society provides a range of specialised services for people with Alzheimer's Disease and other forms of dementia and their carers, including Day Care, Befriending Service, Carer's Support Service, Tea Clubs and Lunch Clubs. In addition they provide information about various aspects of Alzheimer's Disease and other dementias.
A National Helpline is also available - Tel: 0845 3000336 - calls are charged at local rates.

Huntington's Disease Association exists to provide information, advice and support to people affected by Huntington's. In addition to this, the Association runs a support group which meets on the first Wednesday of each month at the Grange Day Unit, Monkwearmouth Hospital, Newcastle Road, Sunderland. This group offers help, advice and support to people with Huntington's, their carers and families.

Social Focus Service operates Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 10.00am - 4.00pm, within the Age Concern Building in Stockton Road, Sunderland.

Providing support and encouragement to people who have suffered from depression, anxiety and other mental health needs (not dementia).

SUNDERLAND COUNSELLING SERVICE

The Centre offers counselling and support to people who have experienced bereavement or loss. Specially trained counsellors can provide individual counselling as well as group support. Tel: 0191 514 7007

Sunderland MIND offers help and support for anyone who has or who has had mental health problems. They have a wide range of activities including drop-in, video night, listening ear counselling service and a variety of regular evening events. There is a meal service available daily. Support is also available to carers.

Washington MIND offers a warm welcome to anyone who wants to use their services. They offer drop-in services including a women's drop-in and a panic self help group.
Counselling is also available by appointment.
