Sensory Impairment
BLIND OR PARTIALLY SIGHTED
Help and advice is available for people who are blind or partially sighted
from Social Services Sensory Impairment Team.
We can give information, advice or help with:-
Adaptations and equipment to help you in your daily living or mobility
Communication skills, for example Braille, moon, typing
Mobility skills using sighted guide techniques or white canes
Daily living skills, for example cooking, writing, telephoning
Advice on benefits
Leisure pursuits, talking books, social clubs, holidays
Voluntary organisations who can help
Advice if you have any other disabilities
SERVICES FOR THE DEAF/BLIND
A combined sight and hearing loss does create particular difficulties.
Advice and information can be offered to help you cope with the situation.
Equipment may be recommended and support given to learn new ways in which
to communicate and carry out daily living tasks. You can be helped to
access social activities and the City’s Guide Help/Befriending Service.
Information can also be produced for you in the format you find most
acceptable.
DEAF OR HARD OF HEARING
Help and advice is available for people who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
from Social Services Sensory Impairment Team.
We can give information, advice or help with:-
Specialist equipment to help with your daily living
Sign language support
Help in learning new skills
Social Work support
Voluntary Organisations who can help you
Advocacy and representation
Advice on benefits available
Advice if you have any other disabilities
