A carer is someone who looks after a family member, friend or neighbour who is unable to manage alone because they have an illness, disability or are frail. If you are a carer Sunderland City Council's Adult Services can support you and help you to maintain your own health and well being by providing a number of services. There are a number of leaflets available:

Carers Emergency Contact Scheme

This scheme is available to carers who register for a card. The card is carried by carers who have someone at home who is dependent on them. In the event of an emergency where the carer is prevented from returning home, the card provides a 24-hour telephone contact point and unique reference number. Calls are received by Sunderland Telecare who will then take appropriate action by contacting the next of kin, a neighbour or if necessary, by carrying out a home visit.

Registration with the service is free of charge to all carers of vulnerable people regardless of age.
